Hmm, I can understand the thought that a shooter game is just not for you since I used to think like that as well (especially since most shooter games are really brutal). One usually needs to separate reality and gameplay very well while playing a shooter game; and if one can do this and looks at the mechanics and gameplay from an intellectual perspective, it can be very rewarding since this total immersion in the moment and the need to react instantly challenges one to use skills which are very different from the skills one needs as a writer.
On the other hand, if you’re more interested in getting immersed in a story than in the gameplay itself, I’d say the game isn’t for you. There isn’t much which happens in the story apart from a few quirky dialogues or voiceline interactions which the players have chosen.
