Aww, yes, looking back on old fics can be... an experience, to say the least, especially when they are that old. It was going through that myself with my older YGO fics the one time that made me realize why Sean preferred the Groovebarbers version of "My Home" to the Rockapella version--that he would, naturally, have improved his voice over all those years!
But ooh, the idea of a fake Giovanni is intriguing! And gah, poor James, and Jessie finding him! If you do ever decide to do that fic and go that route, Giovanni canonically has a son, Silver--Silver hasn't shown up in the anime aside for a brief cameo, but that's more than enough for the fandom to agree that anime!Giovanni is a father and could be useful as a "spot the impostor" moment.
And yup, overhauling a fic is one of the big things keeping me from revitalizing the YGO fic...
