Interesting.
It's still been mildly driving me nuts whether that very YGO-flavored August 1st I'm remembering was 2002 or 2003. I finally did some Internet searches and turned up a piece about Mattel's YGO offerings at the Toy Fair for 2002. According to it, the first big figures were released that year, so I guess it was August 1st, 2002 after all, even though I didn't think that was enough time counting back from when I discovered YGO. I wish I knew the exact day I did. It must have been earlier in July than I thought, or maybe it was even late June instead. That would have allowed for plenty of time to get obsessed with first the show and then Seto and search high and low for big figures.
I also read that they had planned to release a six inch Pegasus. I'm pretty sure they never did. Searching for one only brought up images of SetsunaKou's custom-made version. I wonder why Mattel never released theirs. I thought Pegasus was a pretty popular character, although I personally was never crazy about him. Had they really released a six inch figure, however, I might have tried to get it.
I also learned that they released a Joey figure from the Capsule Monsters arc, with his casual clothes from it and the ability to add his Red Eyes armor from the episode where the cursed Red Eyes possesses him. Wow, I never saw that figure in stores! I don't know if I would have tried to get it if I had, since I already had a Joey, but that's cool! They also made an actual Capsule Monsters board game. I don't think I ever saw that either. That's a shame. I'm sure I would have tried to get that, because it looked like such a fun game in the show.
I wonder if there are other YGO treasures they made that I don't know about....
