insaneladybug: (z)
Finally had the urge to watch all the Z/Vincent episodes again; I haven't for a while because I don't like seeing Baxter suffering. I think the Vincent ones are the only fly episodes I watch much, and only for Vincent. Ended up with several thoughts:

- Vincent in my verse has the personality traits mostly of his first and third appearances: he's sociable and friendly, like in the first episode, and fiercely protective, like in the third. The main thing I take from the second episode is that he has a body, although with Barney's process it works a little differently. A little more about it is revealed in the fic I'm working with now. Of course, he's also snarky and sarcastic, as he is in all three episodes (but especially the first and the third).

- I like the concept I have for my verse that Vincent decides to take over Channel 6 at least partially because he's lashing out at organic beings after he was abandoned on Earth. Of course, nothing canonically says he radioed for help and was abandoned, but it is an interesting thought, as he seems to have some deep-rooted anger towards humans/organic life other than Baxter. Yes, I know that was probably inspiration from HAL 9000, but since Vincent isn't bonkers like HAL, he must have another reason. And no reason why he couldn't just dislike humans' treatment of computers in general, but it's also possible that he has a personal reason.

- Baxter retains enough of his personality in the first Vincent episode that he's making quips and sarcastic comments similar to things he said in his right mind. However, we saw that right from the start of the cross-fusion his mind has been going and that's also clear here. By the time of Vincent's second episode, Baxter is far worse from the dimensional exile and only gets steadily worse from there. He can't focus or remember much of anything. The season 5 episode has him delusionally talking about the good things about being a fly. By Vincent's third episode, he's so far gone he thinks the entire world is to blame for his fly state. True that while unstable but not yet nuts he said that the world would pay for not recognizing his genius, so that sort of mindset isn't exclusive to the cross-fusion, but we don't know exactly what he would have done (especially since Leonardo worried about the clay monster's clay being deadly and it turned out that it wasn't; Baxter apparently never considered doing that with it). By his last episode it's clear he's tipped off the deep end.

- One complaint I read about Baxter is that his focus is always on getting revenge and not on reversing the process. This is true, but honestly, I think he thinks there is no way to reverse it. This seems clear by the way he tells Shredder, "You're about to spend the rest of your life as a fly!" He honestly believes there's no cure for him and all he can think of is revenge. I'm sure the fly encroaching on his sanity doesn't help either. The last episode with him is the first time he realizes there is something that can cure him.

- April being the only one able to resist her mind being taken over by an insect because of her love for the Turtles is so wonderfully squeeable! Just exactly what I love to have in mind-control stories.
