Fun times!

On the local holiday last month we went to the nearest JCPenney's to see what they had, as we had a gift card to use. We couldn't find any of what we were actually hoping to find, but we got a nice blue bath towel and I found a hilarious kitty shirt with kitties randomly floating through space on pastries. It is so silly! Some of them look blase, while others are WTH about it. I love it. It was a fun holiday and was so nice after the nothingness of the 4th.

On the 1st we had to go to the dentist and I hoped to stop at a mall and check the JCPenney's up that way. I was looking for some things I didn't find at the closest one to us, but I found similar things there and thought another branch might have the actual things. What I was looking for was Wreck-It Ralph figures (by themselves and not with huge cars that cost $40) and Mario and Luigi figures. I didn't find those things at the other JCPenney's, but I found something that excited me even more: the Vanellope plush! JCPenney's must have some deal with Disney, as they sell some stuff that I've only seen otherwise at The Disney Store. I've been trying to find the Vanellope plush for ages and figured I'd have to buy her online. She was more expensive at Penney's, yet cheaper than she'd be online with shipping included. First I saw one that was totally messed up with some weird brown stuff all over her. (Yuck!) I desperately hoped that wasn't the only one and went to look through the plushie racks. I found one half-hidden on the bottom shelf! I also found a third one on another rack. I was so excited. I got the good one I found first, from the bottom shelf.

There was also a Target just a block away, so we went there too. I still can't find the Farrah Fawcett figure, but I finally found Medley! I've been looking for her so long; she was on my last Christmas list. It felt so good to finally bring both her and Vanellope home. Medley looks so '80s. It's awesome.

I couldn't help remembering an August 1st in the past that was a happy day for me too. I can't remember now if the year was 2002 or 2003; part of me says it must have been 2002, but the other part says that wouldn't work, time-wise, because I'm pretty sure I got into YGO in late July 2002, and that wouldn't have left enough time for all the figure-searching I was doing. What happened was I wanted YGO figures and I found big ones of Yami Yugi and Seto were coming out. I hadn't seen them locally, so I finally ordered the Seto one on July 24th online. He arrived on August 1st and I was thrilled! I remember standing him next to the TV to watch the YGO rerun that day, heh. I also remember it was the very first episode, not a favorite because of Seto's horrible behavior. But I watched it and then we went out shopping and went to the Toys R Us on the West side of the valley. I found that the figures were out, wouldn't you know it. So I got Yami Yugi that same day. Then we had a nice driving excursion to an old mining town.

I really miss back then when YGO and anime were so new to me and everything was so exciting and there were always new discoveries to be had. It just seems like these days, there's not a whole lot to get excited about regarding anime. There were some neat merchandise things coming out for anime I've loved for years, like YGO and Sailor Moon, but there isn't much of that left around now, it seems like. I did see a Sailor Moon shirt at Target, which made me ecstatic, and I desperately want to go back and get it (if it's not a crop top; I couldn't tell and those would not look good on me). Hopefully all branches will have it; I saw people finding it at their Targets too, so that's hopeful. And there's one at Forever 21 I like even more, but I don't know if it's in local stores or just on the website. But places like FYE, which used to be one of The places for anime and video game merchandise, don't seem to have much at all anymore. The last time I was at the big one, there was hardly any of that. It looked so barren. It's really sad. I discovered a neat store called Boxlunch with anime stuff, but their prices are horrifying. They have better prices online, but then you have to factor in shipping.

I've been following Toys R Us very closely all this year. Geoffrey's Toy Box was a success, apparently, and they have emerged from bankruptcy! It's interesting that I never could accept they were gone and it's ended up that they're not. They finally announced the new stores for the year, but apparently there will only be two, in New Jersey and Texas. I'm still trying to convince them to come here too. Heh. Hopefully next year it will happen. In any case, there will be the website, and I desperately want to support them and buy something there. I hope they'll have a huge selection and a good shipping policy. The new stores are going to have product demonstrations and play areas for the kids to play with Geoffrey. Those things sound epic! I just really hope they won't mostly have educational toys and not much else. Educational toys are important, but I feel like all the other toy stores in existence right now focus on those. I want Toys R Us to still have toys based on popular characters and such. They had a better selection of those than anywhere else.

(Also, still no sign of this KB Toys comeback they were promising. There's been no word from them at all since they told why the stores they promised last year didn't happen. I prefer Toys R Us, of course, but I was hoping KB would be back too. I am not impressed with their lack of information and apparent lack of going forward with plans....)

A couple of weeks ago it really hit me that ShopKo is gone. I don't think it ever really sank in before, especially since I didn't get to go to the liquidation sales much. It's really sad. Okay, they usually had horrible prices and that's probably why they're gone, but I still loved the store and sometimes they had good deals. I got a Turtles playset there to get the laptop out of it. I got a Twilight Sparkle Christmas ornament. I think it was ShopKo where I finally found the big Marik figure. And the fun Halloween stuff they used to have.... So many happy memories of them.... Now there won't be any more.

I was going to buy myself that book about Mario for my birthday, but the price suddenly dropped to $17, so I decided I needed to get it now. It's different than what I thought; it doesn't have all the juicy background information I was hoping for, and it only focuses on 17 games they consider the main timeline. But it is a fun book, detailing the gameplay of those games and the enemies and the power-ups and such. I love books like that. I also got a book about haunted locations in my state. Some things I hadn't heard before. It was a short book, but a fun read.

And I ended up getting a very dark idea for my next big YGO fic, of whether the accident that killed Noa was really an accident. I also got the idea of someone falsely accusing Lector of hitting Noa, due to that story I mentioned reading where he really did kill Noa, on purpose. Since I was partially inspired by that story, I tried to contact the author to ask if it was alright if I posted mine, but I didn't have any luck. A friend told me she thought it would be alright if I posted it anyway, since I was only inspired by it and my story went in a completely different direction, with Lector innocent. So I credited that author and her story for partial inspiration and I've been posting it. I just put up chapter 6. Lector really goes through the emotional wringer. It's pretty much the opposite of the story I read, as he not only didn't do it in mine, but he is devastated by the accusation and is tortured by painful memories from the past throughout the fic. He fears it was his fault, as he and Noa were arguing and Noa ran away when he was struck. Due to the subject matter of wondering if Noa was murdered, I ended up rating the story M. I just wasn't comfortable rating it T.

I've been doing more pictures, and I finally made a Big Five wallpaper I've wanted to make for months: http://meromeroyui.deviantart.com

I also decided on a bunch of image songs for Nesbitt in my verse. Whereas in canon he is over-confident and arrogant, in my verse pretty much all of that has been knocked down and he is discouraged and despondent, hating his impulsive and reckless behavior and how he often blurts hurtful things to Lector and the others. Leave Out All the Rest I chose for him a while back, along with The Reason and Forgive Me. Yesterday I realized Breaking the Habit also fits very well, and that song has been stuck in my head since then.

After a discussion on Sailor Moon with someone last Friday, I felt like getting out my DiC dub DVDs and watching some. Usually I watch Sailor Moon in Japanese, but honestly, I still love the DiC dub. The characters' voices had a lot of heart and those were the voices I heard when I first tried Sailor Moon in 2002. I'm very sentimental about the DiC dub.

I felt like watching the end of R, so I pulled it out Saturday morning. After the first two of four climatic R episodes, I was thinking, "Sailor Moon season climaxes are really downers." I remembered getting depressed the last time I watched the end of S. Even in the DiC dub, the R climax kept most of its dark elements. It doesn't try to cover up Sapphire and Diamond being murdered. Sapphire's last episode was especially heartbreaking. But then the other two R episodes had a lot of squee and hope (in spite of the downer of Diamond's death). (And no, I didn't watch that silly thing after the end of the arc that was basically a clip show as everyone argued who should lead the team (or star in the show, as per the Japanese, heh). I saw that once, maybe twice, and that was enough. I rarely like clip show episodes.)

Seeing those episodes left me with some serious nostalgia. Even though I didn't see Sailor Moon in first run, the whole feel of the dub and its added Sailor Moon Says segments were so very 90s. I love the 90s and I miss their relative innocence compared to today's cynicism. The 90s, at least the early to mid 90s, were kind of an extension of the 80s in some ways. Both were lovely decades to enjoy as kids, with fun, cheesy, and wholesome shows. (And you know, honestly, I liked how most of the Sailor Moon Says segments were tailored to each episode. It was clever how they found a moral in each one that they could use. I was disappointed when towards the last of the DiC run they stopped trying and just reused old segments.)

Then I watched some YGO. I did see it in first-run, and I had nostalgia about 2002. Those years when I discovered YGO and watched it in first-run were among the happiest years of my life. Not just because of that, of course; my real life was very good then and I wasn't cynical and weary like I am now. I often long for those happy days again. Not that I don't have happy times now, and my real life is still good, but there's a lot to be said about the days of relative innocence. Evanescence's Field of Innocence sums things up pretty well (although thankfully I don't feel as despondent as the person in that song).

Later that day, I had the urge to try Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog again. I grew up with it, and as I recall, it was my first introduction to Sonic. (Either that or I saw the comics before I saw the cartoons. Now I don't remember the order.) Netflix has a few of them, so I thought I'd watch the one where Sonic tries to find Tails a new home after deciding it's just too dangerous for Tails to be with him. I last saw it ten years ago and I thought I remembered that there was only one instance of physical humor in that episode, involving something in Robotnik's eye. I had completely blocked out all the rest of the Warner Brothers humor in the climax. Sigh. As a kid, I could watch that sort of thing without batting an eye. As an adult, I have to look away and I'm still in horror anyway. And unlike Darkwing Duck, which was a really strong show that I still love in spite of that horrible Warner Brothers humor, Adventures definitely didn't have the same lush animation and storytelling quality to mean more than the violence. (Although the storylines aren't always bad; the one I watched is pretty moving, barring all that physical humor. And this line from Tails is absolutely beautiful: "Family just means the people who care about you more than anything else!" It fits perfectly for the friends as family concepts I love to write. I also loved that in spite of Sonic's obnoxious behavior, he wasn't too proud to say he loves Tails.)

Other things I noticed about Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog:

- The opening theme song, with everything forming "Sonic," is so very obnoxious.
- Sonic himself is too.
- Mobius looks weird, lol. It's always so surreal. I guess that fits the tone of the show, but it's so minimalist that it seems more sloppy and unimaginative than anything else.
- They use a bit of game music, which is awesome.

I wish they had styled Mobius like the games. Then it would look lush and gorgeous!

I'm glad Sonic isn't portrayed quite as frustrating as he was in those old series. All Sonics have a bit of an obnoxious streak, but I definitely don't remember it being that bad in Sonic X, or in the games. If Knuckles ever met Sonic from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, he would probably not be able to refrain from punching him in the face.

Then I decided that one episode of that series at a time was more than enough to break my brain. I wanted to mend it, so I decided it was the perfect time to play a Sonic X episode and hear David Wills voice Espio. I'd wanted to do that ever since learning that he played Espio. He also plays Nesbitt, you see. My favorite Sonic X episode, where Eggman actually saves Sonic's life, also features the Chaotix. And it's one of the few episodes I have on DVD.

I definitely got a kick out of David's performance. Even though both Espio and Nesbitt have deep voices, they still sound completely different. I'd never know it was the same guy without having looked it up. I want to draw a silly picture of them staring each other down, neither very impressed with the other.

(I wonder if I'm able to draw Nesbitt recognizable. It's hard to draw him without him resembling Tristan, I discovered, since he also has a piece of hair sticking out on his forehead. Of course, with him it's more realistic and not bizarre-looking like Tristan's. LOL.)

Man, season 3 of Sonic X is dark. Of course, I always knew that, but it hits even harder when I'm not always able to deal with darker things these days. That episode is still so absolutely awesome, though. I love Eggman, totally prefer him over the Robotniks of the old 90s cartoons, and I loved that Vector figured out that Eggman was really trying to warn Sonic about the Metarex's plans instead of bragging and gloating like he said. I feel like watching the episode again.

I remember when Sonic X was coming out, I wondered if I'd be able to get used to Eggman after all the Dr. Robotniks. Well, I got used to him just fine with the first episode and enjoyed every moment of it. I wish I had more of the Sonix X episodes. I have the very first DVD, with I think 12 or 13 episodes, I have the season 2 DVD with the Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 adaptations, and I have the season 3 DVD with the last 13 episodes. I may have a few more recorded off of television. Well, I know I do, but I don't recall if any of them aren't also on those DVDs.

I wonder if I'll ever try overhauling my fic idea of doing a Sonic X version of Shadow the Hedgehog (the game). I was typing a chapter and suddenly realized, "What am I doing?!" All the alien invasions were dark for me and, I realized, too dark. Plus, to follow the game there'd be entire cities demolished later. I didn't feel I could write it. I wonder if there'd be a way to do some elements of the Shadow game while keeping the lighter feel of the first two Sonic X seasons. Probably not.

And even though I've never liked that Great Eastern doesn't make their Sonic plushies furry, I wish I'd gotten their Espio plush. Now it's out of print and GE lost the license for a while, so prices went through the roof. I heard they got the license back, and I wonder if they'll make Espio again since there's clearly a heavy demand for him.

I want to get to GameStop and see if I can find that Uncle Scrooge plush Funko made. I can't find out if it's furry, and I'm not sure how big it is because I keep hearing different sizes, so I'd like to see it in person before I decide whether to get it. I've wanted a Scrooge plush for years. He was always my favorite character on DuckTales. I did see a Scrooge plush for the reboot at Target, but I'd rather look into the classic plush from Funko first.

I also want more G1 My Little Ponies. I had a dream about going to get another one and having trouble deciding between all the new ones released. And there are a lot of new ones! In addition to the wave I just started being able to find recently, there are at least two other waves coming out! Squeeee. It's so amazing to be able to find G1 Ponies new in stores again! The inner little girl who longed for them so badly is overjoyed. It's nice that the original Ponies can still be found used from other collectors, but nothing compares to being able to get them new!

I'm also wanting to get the movable Yami Yugi and Yugi figures with Amazon gift cards. It's a struggle deciding who to get first, though. Yugi's release is tied to The Dark Side of Dimensions, so he might go out of print first, yet I really am excited about the Yami Yugi. But I'd hate if I couldn't ever get Yugi, even though I'm disappointed the duel disk can't be removed from his arm. I kind of doubt Yugi would go out of print between now and the next time I'd have enough gift cards, but you never know. But for that matter, Yami Yugi could suddenly go out of print even though you might think he'd be around longer.

Finally feel like posting something fun.

A couple of weeks ago, Duel Links did a tag team dueling tournament. There were different tiers and different partners for each. My favorite one was teaming up with Yugi, although I wish they had given them customized things to say based on who he was talking to. They didn't, which resulted in the hilarious situation of him enthusiastically greeting Yami Bakura and then at the end, saying it was the strength of their friendship that enabled them to win. LOL. Although it could actually work for my post-series verse, where they do end up as allies, at least. I'm toying with the idea of writing a fic where they have to tag team duel. Their styles would not mesh. Yugi would hate Ectoplasmer, for one thing, and Yami Bakura would think Yugi was too cautious. It would be quite a strange duel. I also want to draw an angsty picture at the point when it looks like Yami Bakura was killed in the battle where he was needed to fight against a dangerous evil and Yugi is mourning him, saying, "The strength of friendship didn't save him...." I tried drawing it, but something went wrong and they got too big. It looked like something I would have drawn 15 years ago, WTH. I don't often do this, but I'll have to start over and try again.

Currently they're doing an event where there's two teams of five people each, and each member tries to duel to bring in points for their team. And you have to pick a monster type you like best to be sorted into a team. First round is Spellcasters vs. Dragons. I think the only decks I have that use dragons are Seto's and Rex's (yeah, I finally unlocked Rex, which pleased me since I wanted him), but neither is good enough for human vs. human battles yet, I don't think. So I picked Spellcasters. You're advised to have the monster type in your deck, naturally, so I selected the character I have who has the highest number of them, which is Tea. I was having trouble winning with her, though, so I probably still need to work on her selection of magic and trap cards. I finally gave up and decided that even though I only had a couple of Spellcasters in the deck, it would be way wiser to use Yami Bakura, since his deck was the one I worked the hardest on (and hence, the one my heart's in the most). So I went back to him and have managed to win some duels for the team. (I also managed to lose some, but at least most of them were after hard-fought battles, instead of losing right off the bat. And either way, I get a certain amount of points for the team, so that's good.) I also discovered a card an opponent was using that looked good, so I went seeking it afterwards in card packs and managed to get it, along with another card I really liked the sound of once I saw it. Both seem like cards Yami Bakura would use, so for right now he's using them both. (And that gives him two more Spellcasters, heh.) I miss one of the cards I removed to get the new ones in, though....

I still mostly play as Yami Bakura in general, only switching to other characters for a few duels here and there. I've maxed out his available levels, but leveling up was never the big thing with me; what excited me was getting to play as characters I love. And of the available characters, Yami Bakura is the one I want to play as most, so I still do.

I never thought I'd play as a GX character, but I became so fond of Jesse during the Jesse event that I decided I'd play as him sometimes once I unlocked him. At least GX characters can duel at the DM Gate, so they can mostly duel DM characters if that's the way I want it. I have played as Jesse occasionally and enjoy it quite a lot.

I made a Duke plush. http://meromeroyui.deviantart.com

Working on my next ensemble multi-chapter too. I just finished the first draft of chapter 7 and really like it so far.

Work's been good. I got a very nice payment for a video conference I did and I've spent a little and held on to most of it. I bought a newly made, official YGO shirt that has Yami Yugi, Seto, Joey, Mai, and Yami Bakura on it. (Squeeee!) And I finally got the Sailor Moon figure in the release with Luna. I managed to win an auction to get her. I have many other things I'm interested in, but I can't get them all and I don't want to whittle the money down to nothing, so as usual, it takes me ages to decide what I want most.

I also found a Sailor Mars figure at Toys R Us earlier this month. I was really hoping to be able to be there when they brought Pluto in from their warehouse, but I was glad to see any character I didn't have. I had previously decided if I saw a character I didn't have, I'd get her. Mars is my least favorite Senshi in the anime, but she has her moments, and I like her a lot in the manga. And the figure is gorgeous! I'm thrilled with her. I just wish the Toys R Us closest to us would have the figures. They never have; it's the one an hour away that does. I may or may not talk more about Toys R Us in another entry.

Hmm....

Actually, after watching Scare in the Air, I'm back to not being so sure that my original story concept of Giovanni trying to kill James is so far-fetched. In that episode, unless the dialogue is different in Japanese, he sounds like he's deliberately sending Jessie, James, and Meowth out in a rickety blimp hoping they won't come back. Eeeek! Maybe I won't ever do anything with revising the story at all, especially if I keep flipping back and forth on that key angle. We'll see.

We had a very nice family outing. One of my nephews was getting baptized. (We believe in baptizing when the kids are old enough to decide for themselves, instead of doing it when they're babies.) He was really cute and very appreciative of the gift and card we had for him. He exclaimed "The letter is the best thing!" and was thrilled that the card's picture had a cat. They have two Russian Blue twins. I saw one of them and he said Meow when he was petted. I wanted to pet him, but by the time I finished eating, he had wandered somewhere in the yard and I couldn't find him. And my brother who owns the cats told us that they're always leaving "presents" by the door. He told a horror story of one time when one of them brought a mouse into the house that wasn't quite dead and they spent three weeks trying to find the thing and being all tense not wanting to take their shoes off with it running around. And then finally he heard the sound of it getting caught in the trap. Relief at last! I do feel sad for mice being caught in killing traps, but not so sad that I don't want to use them. It is horrible having them loose in the house!

They had these yummy big sandwiches with cheeeese, same as the last time we were out there, and I was delighted. They also had some kind of pasta salad that was great and some brownies and other desserts. And lemonade and ice water. I think it must have been powdered lemonade that's mixed up, because I like that but don't really like fresh lemonade because it's pulpy. Once everyone had their fill, I absconded with some leftovers. Good thing I did, as I got hungry before we got home and ate them all.

Another one of my brothers, the one who lives here in town, gave me $20 as a birthday present! Squeeee. That meant I could definitely get two figures! I had been waffling on whether I could, yet really wanting to because of the prices.

I got Chibi Moon, as planned, and then I saw Tuxedo Mask. He wasn't at the closer store. I hadn't planned to get him unless I already had Sailor Moon, but since he's the only male character in the line, he fascinated me. But I debated a long time between him and Pluto. I finally chose him, since I have a Pluto doll and since the Pluto figure is at the closer store. It seemed more logical to get ones I don't have closer access to. Not that I get to the local store much, but I may have another chance at it this month. Not sure, though. And my only other choices at that store we were at today would have been Mars, Super Sailor Moon, or Sailor V. Mars is my least favorite Senshi, so I'm not terribly enthusiastic about getting her ahead of other characters. I have Venus and don't feel the need for V as well, and as mentioned, I'd rather have the Sailor Moon release that comes with Luna. But I might end up getting Super Sailor Moon anyway, because of the price and because now I need to complete the Moon family!

Before we found that Barnes and Noble, there were sad times. We tried to go to a Toys R Us on the west side of the valley and couldn't find it. Finally things looked familiar to me and I saw where it had been. It's gone. The people in a local bookstore told us and then we saw the empty space. They're going to put up some stupid parking lot or something, I think they said. So that's two of my childhood Toys R Uses gone. I'd really be crushed if I still lived up there! It's sad enough just knowing they're gone. I was at that Toys R Us just last year, I think.

Then we couldn't find the Barnes and Noble because the address wasn't informative enough. We had to go ask some girls in a Metro PCS store and then backtrack, as we'd gone the wrong direction. But getting to the store was worth it, as recorded above.

And there was another reason it was worth it. There was a party store in that shopping center. Party stores always have tons of Halloween stuff, and cheaper than official Halloween stores. I went in and looked around. I found a lab coat! It was a little pricier than I wanted, but about the price I'd figured I'd have to pay for one. I couldn't find a wig, though. They were either an okay style but the wrong color or vice versa. But I was ecstatic to find the coat!

There's only one Toys R Us left in the valley now. Dad said we could go to it even though it would require a bit of backtracking. It was nice to see it, but sad too. It had a few things the closer one doesn't have, but overall, the product selection was either the same or worse than ours. And no Miraculous Ladybug dolls at all. It makes me remember my childhood and the three Toys R Uses in the valley and how nice it was to be able to have those different options to go to depending on where we were at the time. The one up East is probably the one I'm most deeply sentimental about, but I love them all. The one West is the one we went to a lot when I was watching YGO in first-run. We'd go get milk at a dairy out there every couple of weeks, drive through a local cemetery and get creeped out, and go to that Toys R Us. I think that was where I got my Team Rocket stickers (and failed to get the gift bag). The one remaining one, in the center yet farther South, is the one I probably got to visit the least, since it was the farthest away.

ShopKo is still across the street from it. So is a Halloween store. I tried the Halloween store for the wig and found the prices more frightening than anything in the store. The wigs that the party store had had too were double the cost in the Halloween store! There were also wigs unique to the Halloween store that were even more expensive. Then I tried ShopKo ... and I found something. It's blond, but it's wild, and a better option than anything else I've turned up. Best of all, they were running a weekend sale and it was 65% off! Plus I had my coupon and was allowed to take off an extra 20%! I got a $25 wig for $6.99! You can't beat that! And with the original price, one hopes it's a good wig. Most people see Baxter with blond hair anyway. It's not fluffy, unfortunately, but I'm not sure they even make fluffy wild wigs.

So now I'm all set! I can play Baxter after all! **dances.**

Then we drove mostly home, stopped to get some vegenaise (vegan mayonnaise) at a health store and picked up a free popcorn sample they have on Saturdays. Yuuum. I only got three and a half hours of sleep and thought sure I'd crash for a nap, but instead I've been wide awake. I'm wearing down now, though, I think, and I want to save the deboxing of figures until I've slept.

But yes, a great day and a great outing! I probably spent a little more than I should have, but that gift money sure helped!

Thanks to circumstances out of my control, I was, as I feared, not able to do my shopping thing on my birthday. And I wasn't able to celebrate at all until late in the day. But I got some awesome things, including the Orange Islands set and The Loner, which actually isn't as much of a downer show as I was led to believe. It's great so far! I'm so glad I decided to ask for it. I only did because Dad initially couldn't find the Pokemon set, as the clerk and the computer system were both inefficient.

I finally got to do the shopping thing this past night, whereupon I got the bat and also the second Sailor V manga. I also discovered that Barnes and Noble is clearancing most of the first line of Sailor Moon Figuarts figures for 50%! They didn't have the ones I wanted most, unfortunately, and none of them seem to have Mercury, alas. But Chibi Moon seems to be around at some stores up North, and I just so happen to have another chance to go up that way this weekend! So I may get her, and if I do, I may pick up another character while I'm at it because these prices are incredible. There won't be another chance to get them this low, I imagine. Once they disappear from physical stores, the prices will probably only go up.

My Venus is gorgeous, by the way. I changed her expression to the perky one and she's so cute! I have her holding Artemis. I could get Super Sailor Moon among these clearance ones, but I'd rather have the original Sailor Moon who comes with Luna. I don't think Super Sailor Moon does. I couldn't seem to see a Luna in the package. I will probably keep a look-out for the original Sailor Moon on Saturday. I also may try to find Jupiter, as she seems to be hard to get. I'm sure I saw one at this Barnes and Noble before, so she was apparently already bought when they went on clearance. Neptune and Saturn I don't think I've ever seen in the wild.

I've had some oddball things happen, like not being able to get the birthday coupon from Build-a-Bear yet. At first the lady on the phone didn't know what I was talking about. Then I got sent an expired coupon. When I asked, the lady on the email was chagrined that she'd sent an expired one and said they didn't have any for the current month yet. WTH. She'd send one when they come in. But I decided I should get the bat tonight, in case she'd sell out or the coupon would only come when I wouldn't have a chance to go or something. I think I made the right choice. I had a little more remaining on the gift card than I thought, so that was awesome. And there were only four of her in the bin! Yikes! I was told they would restock, though. But I'm glad I got her. She's even more incredible in person! I'm going to put her next to Milly and they can be best buds.

Another oddball thing is that the seller I messaged asking about the unsealed box doesn't seem to have answered. That's the third seller in a row who hasn't answered an eBay message from me. That seems too weird, so I wonder if the problem is on my end. But there is a place at eBay for messages from members, so even if the email copy didn't come through, it seems like I'd find the messages there if they replied. So bizarre. Why are sellers suddenly not responding to me?!

While at Barnes and Noble, I slightly debated returning the manga to get a figure instead, but I really want a figure in addition to the manga. I've been wanting the other Sailor V volume for years and this was a great time to buy. For some reason, Barnes and Noble is doing 10% off all book buys until the 23rd! Very unusual! That said, if I'd found the figures on clearance before I bought the manga, I might not have bought it. But once I did, I didn't want to return it. The figures on clearance, ironically, were over where Dad was waiting, the one place I hadn't thought to check for clearance stuff. So after I bought the manga and Mom and I were going to get him, suddenly I saw them and we were there a while longer.

I really wanted to buy something at Toys R Us and give them business, but I just couldn't find anything I wanted that much. The one thing I might have bought, a Miraculous Ladybug doll, was part of a BOGO 50% off sale, only there weren't any other characters left that I could include, save for the expensive two-doll pack that I can't get right now. So maybe I'll check another Toys R Us on Saturday. I could have just bought the one doll by herself, but I felt I'd rather see if I could find two at another store and then decide whether to buy. I might not because of the Sailor Moon figure sale.

It was really sad being there. Their plushie section has seriously dwindled. Unless it's moving elsewhere in the store, there weren't any FAO Schwartz plushies anymore. No Maine Coon cat. There isn't even a Sonic section! I found one lonely Knuckles plushie and nothing else. And they've reduced their Turtles section. And of what's still there, no new 87 keychains beyond what was there before. And all Mega Construx Turtles stuff is being clearanced out. So sad. Of course, the latter isn't a Toys R Us problem but something Mega Construx is doing all over. I think the Mutagen Canisters are not clearancing out, but regardless, Toys R Us didn't have any. Sad. I still need to pick up another Baxter to make into Barney for my dA friend, and I wonder if I should get a second one to have on hand here in case someone else wants one and they do clearance out and disappear. I don't know, though; all Wal-Marts other than mine seem to be stocked pretty good on the Canisters right now. Seriously, though, Toys R Us getting rid of stuff like the FAO Schwartz plushies and reducing what's available to buy doesn't seem like a good move when they're already in financial trouble. They should hang onto their merchandise unless they find they have to get rid of it. And I always wanted that Maine Coon, but there was rarely ever a sale. If I see it at another Toys R Us, maybe I should get it.

Before I went out, I debated things to get at Barnes and Noble and another thing I considered was that Leonardo and Mousers set. That was the only place I've ever seen it, but now it wasn't there anymore. But eh, it's a little cheaper on Amazon anyway. Also, the Technodrome set is down to $104 on Amazon! Still more than I want to spend on one toy, but that is awesome! I wish the Splinter would be available some other way, though, because I'm afraid I'll never get to have him.

I've been enjoying the Pokemon episodes, watching old favorites and seeing others I don't remember or never actually saw. I think Pikachu Re-Volts is my new favorite episode, heh. I try to avoid rewatches until I've gone through everything, but I might have to watch that one again soon anyway. I still like Holy Matrimony!, except for cringing at how Jessie and Meowth kept trying to force James to go home and marry against his will. I loved when he finally had enough and yelled at them! But it's not the episode with James talking about the marble house. I wonder what episode that was.

Misty hasn't frightened me with her temper yet, but I'm sure she will soon. In the episodes I've seen so far, though, she was in the right to be frustrated or angry. I love when she exclaims, "James is right here!" when everybody starts bawling at the Little Match Girl story James starts telling with himself in the role. LOL. And Ash was being a jerk in The Ghost of Maiden's Peak and insulting her, and he and Brock were both being a little annoying in The Purr-fect Hero. That said, a paper fan shouldn't hurt and it looked like it hurt, so I don't like them making it look like Misty hurt them when there's no logical reason why that would have hurt.

I'm still considering updating my old fic, but I'm thinking I would probably leave the original up. Someone was actually reading it yesterday. And liking it, incredibly. I think I might call the new version Dead and Alive: Director's Cut or some such, because if I leave the old one up, I need some way of identifying the new one as being connected with it.

I also got an intense Turtles plunnie after reading a series of blurbs a friend has been showing me. I immediately wrote a blurb, love it, and want to write a full-length fic. But the bat one is supposed to be next and I've already made a dent in it. It doesn't absolutely have to be next, though, so I wonder if I may write back and forth on the two fics at once and whichever one is done first will go up next. My attention is wavering again. As much as I like to write slice-of-life or humorous fics as breaks, it doesn't take long and I'm anxious to do more character-developing intense stuff and squee again.

Yesss!

Venus arrived today and she's gorgeous! I won't open her until Tuesday, but it's awesome she's here! I put her with the Pokemon DVDs in the closet for now. I'll have fun deboxing and watching new stuff come Tuesday.

I found a couple of interesting Chibiusa listings and contacted the seller about one that's new, but the seal is broken. Wondering if he knows why it's broken. Then a sealed one is only two dollars more. So I'm contemplating one of those. Both are cheaper than the Mercury. And since she's smaller, I totally approve of her costing less.

Pondering on that quiz I've been fiddling with for Baxter and Barney. It's originally an OC quiz, but I just had no interest in talking about OCs, so I modified it to use it for characters I wanted to talk about. My dA friend enjoyed reading the Baxter one (I still haven't posted the Barney one), but said he was disappointed not to learn about an OC. That honestly amazed me, LOL. I do find it idly interesting to see the characters people come up with, but I would much rather read about their interpretation of canon characters, unless I seriously disagree with their interpretation. For me, canon characters are always more interesting than OCs. I have no loyalty to or interest in someone's OCs like I do with characters I've been journeying with in favorite shows. I read fanfics to see the canon characters getting into new adventures, not to meet someone's OCs. Anyway, so because of my own feelings, I find it interesting that someone would actually be interested in someone else's OCs that much. Especially when all he's seen of any of my OCs are a couple of pictures of two of them interacting with Baxter. I thought I should try doing the quiz with an OC since he's actually interested, but I haven't thought out all the little details about my OCs like I have my interpretations of canon characters. So I wonder how far I'd even get trying to take it for an OC. LOL. It's a fairly long quiz and my heart might not be in it if I use an OC.

Something to think about....

Well, this time a bidding war happened. Last I knew, the Mercury figure had reached $89 plus shipping. WTH ... how do people get so carried away like that? It's especially outlandish in this case, because you can buy the genuine article for anywhere from $30-$40 on eBay and Amazon! The older releases' prices seem to be coming down in general. Right now I'm debating getting one at the lower end of that price spectrum, but I'm not sure since I was worried about spending too much money right now. I wish I'd tried to get that first one. I'd like to do the shopping spree before making a decision, but the listing for this $29.99 one will end before that. Bleh. Amazon does have her for $32 right now, only some reviews I read said that some people end up with bootleg figures when ordering from Amazon. Not encouraging.... Maybe that's just if it's third-party sellers, though. Hmm.

And I did look at the Sailor Moon fic last night. I found that some characters I seem to handle pretty well, like Nephrite and Naru. Kunzite and Ami came out pretty well too. At least, I hope Kunzite did. I'm pretty confident about Ami. And I think Usagi also. Maybe Makoto. But I seemed to have a difficult time with the others. I'd probably do better sticking with a niche like Nephrite/Naru instead of an ensemble fic, but I'm not sure how to do this storyline without it being ensemble. Not that I'll ever get it finished. And now I'm wanting to rewrite the Zoisite parts and have the character as female, since that's what I like best. Only when the story's been up all this time and people have Favorited it and such, they would probably really get riled by the change.

I'd forgotten my idea of Naru having lived a past life during the Silver Millennium time. I had it as her being from a Japanese village and she somehow met Nephrite and they became close, but then he got worried about Endymion and Serenity's relationship and started seeing Beryl about it and that caused a rift between him and Naru. Gah. I hadn't shown it yet, but I remember figuring she followed him up to the Moon Kingdom after he got brainwashed and the final battle happened and she was killed along with everyone else and sent to Earth for a second chance.

I think I did that both because I simply liked the concept and maybe I thought it added more credence to the pairing for them to have known each other before? (Or maybe more because I wanted to make it clear that Nephrite/Jupiter had never happened in my verse, LOL.) In canon, it definitely starts out as an ugly pairing and would continue to be so if not for Naru's feelings starting to change Nephrite. I think at first she was more in love with the idea of being in love, but by the end it was obvious that there was more to it. They would still have a lot to work through, of course, but I think they could do it.

I also recall that I was planning to have Zoisite go undercover as a teacher at the high school, LOL. Although the reason why he/she was going to do that was sad. S/he was revived with more Silver Millennium memories than Dark Kingdom ones and was devastated after regaining the memories of arranging Nephrite's murder and was running away. S/he wanted to go someplace where s/he hoped to make sense out of his/her life.

Kunzite was difficult to get a handle on, I remember. Especially since he was so dead-set on loyalty to the Dark Kingdom that he never blamed Beryl for killing Zoisite and refused to let Sailor Moon remove the brainwashing (according to the fic; it's been so long since I saw the episode that I don't remember that confrontation dialogue). I figured the only way to get him to ease up was for the brainwashing to be broken. I believe that was done with Zoisite's music; I might have to keep that concept after all, because it was so key. I had it that Kunzite didn't die, but teleported by accident to a mad scientist after being wounded. She kept him alive until after the events of StarS, when Neo-Queen Serenity revived Zoisite and Nephrite and Zoisite revived Kunzite from the coma with his/her music. Jadeite was never dead either. After the Eternal Sleep crystal broke, he revived.

On the TMNT front, I think I'm almost done with this nice slice-of-life. Still not sure what fic will be next. I wrote a blurb earlier and may follow it up later today. Not sure if they'll be put in a fic or not. I also spent time fiddling around with a character quiz and took it for Barney. I'd previously taken it for Baxter. Some of the answers were the same or similar for both. I posted the Baxter one on dA. Maybe I'll post the Barney one there too. I don't know, though, due to the similar answers on some questions.

Hmm.

Now I'm kind of craving to look over my Sailor Moon fic. I'll probably do that later tonight. I was making good progress on it and then ended up stalling. I never really had a good idea for what the villain was after and such; the villain was an excuse to do awesome things like have all the Four Kings/Generals revived. I figured the situation had to be dire for something like that. Although now I'm thinking maybe not; maybe Neo-Queen Serenity just felt they deserved another chance, because I'd be going with the idea that they were Mamoru's protectors and such, and thus were good people who'd been given amnesia and brainwashed.

Another hiccup was that I decided to introduce a couple of elements I liked from the live-action series, namely, Zoisite playing magical music to try to bring back the others' memories and Venus coming down sick with something serious. The former I hoped would help me like anime Zoisite better. The latter, mainly because I wanted Venus to be telling Kunzite how valuable and important life is.

But ... I really don't think I like anime Zoisite playing music, and I don't think I want to make one of my favorite characters fatally ill (even though of course she'd be healed by the end).

Also, another hiccup was in trying to write Zoisite as a male. Every time I typed "he", it felt wrong. I watched some dub Sailor Moon tonight and honestly, I still like Zoisite as a female. The actress really made the character her own and I don't know how to ever see the character as male, at least in the anime version. But if I ever tried to write that, I'd probably bring the entire community down on my head in indignation.

Then just now I randomly thought of something in regards to the Sailor Saturn problem of being taken away from her father in the anime when the anime father seemed to be a nice man who had just got possessed. I wonder if anyone's ever tried shipping Professor Tomoe and Sailor Pluto? She definitely seems older than all the others, whether she is or isn't as old as time. (I'm still confused on that.) And somehow, the pairing sounds kind of intriguing and sweet.

So I was hoping to get a $5 gift card for Toys R Us from a new survey company I joined over the summer. It's still unavailable, unfortunately. I wonder if that has something to do with the Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I figured that I should get whatever I was going to get now, in case it didn't deliver immediately because of the weekend. The Barnes and Noble one, the other one I was considering, was available this time, so I got it. And it did deliver immediately, squee! I have it printed out and in my bag, ready to go.

I was already kind of wanting to go to Barnes and Noble to look at their anime section, but now it will definitely be a place I'll want to go and I'll need to plan on possibly being there a bit longer if I have a hard time deciding what to get with the gift card. I don't know if I'll buy some anime thing or a book. Probably not DVDs because their prices are usually awful even with discounts. And Amazon usually has better manga prices. It's silly to even be thinking of this, especially if I get the Figuarts Mercury, but there are some cute mini-figures I was tempted by last time. I think they're only $10 and they had Mercury and Venus the last time I was there. I might get one of them. They're semi-chibi, but not the big head kind, so I found them kind of cute and appealing. And I am a sucker for merchandise of characters I love.

Other possibilities are a necklace of some kind. I think they had some with the girls' symbols and colors, so I could get Mercury or Venus of that.

We'll have to see. I really love their anime section.

(Pondering on my favorite Senshi to collect, I remember loving Mercury right away. She was always the one most like me, except that she loves math. Other things about her: shy, introverted, serious, logical, fit very well. And it didn't hurt that she's the blue one. :) I was thrilled about that! Venus I took some time warming up to, as I recall. She can be so ditzy and odd. I think things like the episode with her backstory helped a lot for me to like her and see her as more than a Sailor Moon clone. Actually, she was the original and Sailor Moon was the "clone", interestingly enough, so that's probably why they share some personality traits. Venus is also the October baby, so I feel a connection to her on that level too. Years ago, when they had those Sailor Senshi guides, I was able to get hers. I couldn't get Mercury's, or rather, I didn't want to, because it was badly damaged. Sniffle.)

I also have a 20% off coupon for ShopKo, which is more useful than the birthday emails they usually send. I seem to remember in past years that they sent "several dollars off a $50 purchase" emails and we hardly ever buy something that much at ShopKo. I'm thinking I want to try a ShopKo other than the closest one and see if their Halloween section is any better than here.

I have to admit, I also really wanted to go to F.Y.E. to see their anime and clearance sections. It's a little store, the mall one, but they manage to have a lot of fun things.

So now the list looks like this:

- F.Y.E.
- Build-a-Bear (with briefly peeking into two or three other stores near it)
- Toys R Us
- Barnes and Noble
- ShopKo
- Party store
- Target
- Little Caesar's
- Wal-Mart

Usually I have to trim the list way down because we don't get away in time to go everywhere. I'd probably drop F.Y.E. if I had to, since I'll be seeing Barnes and Noble's anime section. And the only reason I want to go to Target is for Halloween stuff, so if I find something somewhere else, I wouldn't especially want to go there.

I had kind of wanted to peek in T.J. Maxx to see if they have any Equestria Girls dolls, but that's definitely not as high a priority as everything else.

I usually list the times that things close when I make these lists. Toys R Us keeps changing their hours, though. By now I'm so confused I'm not sure what their current hours are. I think they may have gone back to 9:30, the way it used to be when I was a kid? They're about the only store I know to close on a half-hour.

All mall stores close at 9. I believe the party store does too. (And T.J. Maxx.) Barnes and Noble is 10, except on the weekends. ShopKo and Little Caesar's are also 10. Target is midnight, last I knew. Wal-Mart, of course, never closes. I think all our Wal-Marts are Supercenters, so that's awesome.

I also usually make a list of everything I'm hoping to get and the projected prices of such, but right now a lot of things are nebulous. I plan to get the bat at Build-a-Bear, unless I get so enamored by the Songbird Pony that I have to get her. I'd rather wait on her, though, especially since the bat will only be here through Halloween. And Songbird costs more. I was thinking today, though, that that's actually one of my aunt's nicknames for me, so I should definitely get Songbird at some point to have my "namesake." :)

Other than the bat and vague hopes of finding a wig and/or lab coat for Halloween, I don't have much in mind to get. Something anime at Barnes and Noble, probably. I kind of wanted to see if F.Y.E. has a Turtles hoodie that the bigger store had, but even if they have it for the same price, I might not get it. It's not practical, as I don't need a hoodie, and if I'm getting it for fun there's other things I'd probably rather have for fun. Must be careful with money.... Don't know what I might find at Toys R Us, but I definitely hope to find something so I can give them some business. Maybe something Pony, maybe Miraculous Ladybug, maybe TMNT or even Star Wars, Mario, or Sonic. Maybe even something like that F.A.O. Schwartz Maine Coone cat plushie if it's on sale. Still debating getting the Johto set at Wal-Mart, but since I have Indigo and I did finally tell Mom about the Orange Islands one, I'll have plenty of episodes to keep me busy for a while, so I might hold off on Johto. I wish I could find season 1 of Rockford, since it's the only one I'm missing. Squee, I remember how ecstatic I was the year I found season 4 at Target. I think that was the last year they had a lot of oldies TV shows.

I love that I have a little bit of a gift card I can use for the bat, as well as the birthday coupon I assume Build-a-Bear will send. All together, that would add up to almost half the cost of the bat. Then the $5 coupon for Barnes and Noble.... It's lovely when things like that enable one to not have to pay as much out of pocket!

Hmm.

Stuck the Mercury icon on Dreamwidth again. It still seems sadder than I wanted, yet it's such a lovely icon and it's the only Mercury one (or Sailor Moon-related one at all) that I have. So I'll try it and see if I want to keep it. I felt bad to remove the Wesley Lau icon to get it in. Maybe later I'll browse the mostly dead LJ comms and see if there's a cheerier Mercury or Venus icon that would suit my current desired DW journal decor better.

EDIT: Found one! This is much more like it.

It is interesting how I go back and forth on what I want. Even after finding the good deals on the Sailor Moon figures, I flipped back to the Equestria Girls dolls after seeing those sale prices. Yet then when they kept fluctuating, I got frustrated and waffled over whether to get them for sure or not. Then I went back to thoughts of the figures and decided I'd bid on the Venus one after all, especially if no one else tried to get her. It would have seemed such a shame if no one had bothered. Maybe the seller wouldn't have relisted and it was such an amazing deal. And I ended up paying $21.56 total for her, including the shipping, as compared to the $26 something I would have paid for the dolls. On the one hand, three dolls, but without much articulation. On the other, a highly detailed and articulated figure that usually retails for $44-$50. And even though I've liked Ponies most of my life, Equestria Girls has just been an interest for several years (since it came out). Sailor Moon has been an interest for about 15 years. Not that that's always what wins out, but in this case, it would seem that in the end, the figures at good prices excited me more than anything else, once I had enough time to think about it and not have to waffle over juggling products and prices and having to immediately make a decision. Once I made the decision to try to get Venus for sure, my mind firmly settled in on the figures being what I really wanted and I haven't been shaken from that and now I can't imagine getting something else instead of them at these prices.

And I guess I still kind of have the odd hope of finding the dolls in the wild on clearance or something. If I don't, I'm sure I'll be thinking hard about placing that order after my birthday. The figures, on the other hand, absolutely can't be found for prices like those in the wild and so should be snapped up. Still having hope of getting that Mercury. It looks hopeful now, but there could always be last-minute bid wars. I've watched that happen so many times on other products. So weird that it didn't happen on the auctions this past week.

Squeee!

I actually won the auction and got the Figuarts figure! It's Sailor Venus. I still can't believe no one else was interested in her when she's genuine and had a low starting bid. Oh well, their loss. The other one I was following was Mercury. There's another Mercury up from another seller, and depending on how things end up by auction's end, she might be less than the Mercury I didn't end up trying to get. I'll watch that auction too, although I know I probably shouldn't get anything else before my birthday.

Mercury and Venus and Chibi Moon seem to be the main characters I like to get merchandise of. Pluto and Saturn, too, but they're much more difficult to get hold of. Years ago, it took me ages to get hold of a boxed Irwin America Pluto (which I of course deboxed once getting her). And Saturn was out of the question even then, sigh. They're also among the more expensive Figuarts figures. The Inner Senshi, or at least my favorites of such, have been out longer and hence are starting to show up at better prices.

I have to admit, it's tempting to try to get them all now that I snagged one, and I imagine I'll keep checking for good prices on genuine ones. Most likely, I will only get my favorites (if that) and stop there, though.
insaneladybug: (z)
So, as people might expect from me by now, I still haven't bought those dolls. I want them, but I'm getting irritated that the price of the add-on one keeps increasing. It increased once shortly after I added her to my cart, and then the next day she had increased in price again! By now she really shouldn't be considered an add-on anymore. Since her low price was probably the main reason I was going to buy right then, the second price-raising, combined with the aggravation of online sales tax, made me decide to hold off for now. We'll see what happens after my birthday, I think.

Then there's another factor. I've wanted the Figuarts Sailor Moon figures since they first started coming out, but I wasn't willing or able to blow $50 on one figure. I check in on them every now and then, hoping for better prices. And I want to make sure I'm getting the genuine article and not a bootleg.

A couple of nights ago, frustrated with my hesitation to order the Everfree dolls, I started randomly browsing for Sailor Moon dolls and some neat listings for the Figuarts popped up too. One was a Buy It Now, but I wasn't impressed with the seller. The others were auctions, and I am impressed with the seller. I'm assuming they were listed low because the seller hoped a bid war would start. They're genuine, as I learned how to spot bootlegs. One already had a couple of bids. The other, incredibly, still does not. I happened upon things shortly before the first auction would end, and I considered trying to jump in and get the first figure. In the end, still conflicted, I didn't. Maybe I would have if I'd had more time to decide. I get really rattled when I have to decide something right away like that.

I think maybe I didn't jump in too because I was thinking if I won, I'd ask the seller if he'd combine shipping if I won the other auction as well, and part of me was thinking I wouldn't be able to afford two, even at the incredible price. But if I asked, I might for some reason end up getting the other regardless and spending more than I felt I should. And maybe I felt a little bad to take her away from the high bidder, heh. I don't like to do that and always feel a little bad to do it, even though I know all's fair in auctions. This last reason alone wouldn't have stopped me from bidding, however. It was mostly thinking a bid war would start and worrying about money. I do feel kind of sad for not trying to jump in and get her. I was worried too, I think, that an impulse bid might leave me with buyer's regret and I'd panic all over. For a product like this, maybe that wouldn't have happened, though.

Now the second one's auction will end soon and the lack of bids makes me want to give it a shot. Even with the shipping price, she would be way less than what I could get her for in a store. And since she is genuine, and one of my favorites, I feel like I want to and should try for her. I may not have a chance anyway, as bids could suddenly appear at the last moment, but I want to try. Oddly, the first one never got any more bids after that first two. I was stunned.

So ... I guess we'll see what happens. If I do get her, I'll probably save her for opening on my birthday, same as the DVD set. Like with Belle two years ago, saving for then feels like a challenge, and that if I break it, I'll be spoiling something for my birthday.

There is one other I'm considering too. She's a little more than these, but still way better then what I'd find in a store. Part of me says if I get one, I'll stop there. The other part says I'll only want the others even more after getting one. The latter is probably closer to the truth when it comes to something awesome like these.

Oh dear.

I still haven't bought a new bag. Money's been tight and the red purse has been holding everything I need right now aside from the full-size notebook (and aside from any purchases I might make; I love that the messenger bags hold most purchases that I make so I don't have to carry shopping bags around). And ... I'm still in love with the Chibiusa drawstring bag. It's so impractical to think of getting that one, since I assume it only has the one compartment, and it's so frustrating. It's so happy and cute and it says what I want to say right now better than any of the other bags I've looked at. Dang it, I want it.

I have considered getting it to use as a purchase-holding bag. Or as a bag to take my Ghostbusters board game in when I walk to my friend's house (although I have a tote for that). I just ... really don't need this bag. And it costs most than the messenger bag. How do I make myself not want it....

And I watched Phantom of the Sewers the other day and decided I wanted to do a Five Nights at Freddy's-type fic with the Turtles characters. The episode gave me a perfect set-up for it! I had a rocky start getting it going, but that may have been partially because I wanted to write something squeeful that I also had an idea for. So I wrote a blurb that will go into a future fic. Once I got that out of my system, and figured out exactly how I wanted to work the Freddy's fic, I managed to get the Freddy's fic to flow. First draft is almost done now, aside from the epilogue stuff (and whatever I add in proofreads).

In preparing for the fic, I re-read the Freddy's parody I did with Ginger and Lou. I also ended up reading a couple of other short stories with them. I am honestly still pretty proud of all those fics. And I still think that I wrote them pretty accurately, if they ever were to reform. Ginger is such a wild card. And it was fun sometimes, being opinionated on topics through him that I probably wouldn't dare to be opinionated on as myself. Heh. Someday maybe I can write the rest of that second 100Songs set I was working through. I think I was close to being halfway done with it.

And random thought of the day: I don't think Baxter and Barney in my verse would be able to stand watching The Lion King, for obvious reasons. I think the brother problems would upset them too much, both because Barney was never as horrible as Scar and also because he would still be able to relate to some of Scar's bitterness and anger.

I have several songs that remind me of one or the other or both. I'm considering making a section on my website to list them all. Some were found by ThickerThanLove and some were found by me. I love them. And I've been practicing trying to sing some of them in-character. I already have recordings of a couple of them on my Sta.sh. They're sad ones, though, as they're sung by Baxter in fly form post-Revenge of the Fly, when he's lost Z and the fly has mostly completely eclipsed his humanity.

It's funny that I've been having the most difficult time doing voices for Baxter/Barney and for the Turtles. April/Irma/Vernon and Shredder/Krang/Z are pretty easy for me. But I think I've hit on the best voices I can for Baxter and Barney, so I may try recording some new clips and songs soon. Barney's voice is slightly higher pitched, as that seems to be the case in canon. (Although I imagine that he and Baxter can sound exactly like each other, if they choose.)

There's a Sailor Moon bag I really like, but it costs $25. I really didn't want to pay that much if I could avoid it. I also discovered a couple of adorable drawstring bags. I especially love the Chibiusa one. It's so happy and cute and tempting. But I imagine a drawstring bag only has one compartment. As much as I'd like the Chibiusa one, I need to be practical. And I would really function better with multiple compartments. I also saw a Turtles drawstring bag, but I'm pretty sure I saw that one in person at Wal-Mart and thought it seemed flimsy. It's mesh-like.

Then, as much as I said I didn't want a backpack, I found a couple of adorable My Little Pony ones with multiple compartments. They're very tempting, but I'm wondering if I could fit into them. They're probably the biggest child backpacks, so I might be able to fit into them. I can wear boys' shirts in the XL size. But girls' shirts in the XL size are usually impossible, ugh. So I don't know about a girls' backpack. Of course, in a month back to school stuff will start showing up around here since kids return to school in August, and I could try a backpack on in person then, but I wanted a solution found before then. (Since I was hoping to save money for the Scottish Festival, though, I really might not have found a solution by then.)

I knew I really wanted a messenger bag the most, so I went back to looking at those for Hello Kitty. There's some of those that are fairly low-priced. Of course, some of them are also too small, so I have to be careful to check all sizes in the product descriptions. I really like one on Amazon, but the seller has only 92% positive feedback. The number is calculated based on performance in the past year. He has 96% overall, but 92% in the past year seems scary. I don't like to dip lower than 97% positive. Then there's a design I didn't like as much as that one but still considered because it's only $10. Dad apparently signed himself up for a free trial of Prime and then forgot to cancel it before they charged him. **headdesk.** So if he hasn't canceled it yet, I could hurry and get that bag through his account. It's a shiny bag, though, so I wonder if it would be too flashy to have in places like church. In the pictures, Hello Kitty's picture keeps catching the light and shining like a piece of foil.

At least the story has been flowing. The ones I write that focus mostly on Baxter, Barney, and/or Vincent are the ones I take the most joy in, in general, and they write themselves very quickly for the most part. But I think I need to split a scene where Baxter and the crook are talking and then the people the crook wants to cheat show up, as that scene ends up with the climax stuff and I think I should really have another night before that happens. On the other hand, though, if Baxter has a whole night to stew about this undercover assignment and what he's found out about the people's identities and the fact that the crook plans to kidnap the girl if he can't get her uncle to sell him the religious relic, it may not have the same impact when I get to that scene. As it is, Baxter is panicked because he's just learned of those plans and then the people show up, and I kind of like the effect of him having to act immediately with no prior plan in mind. So maybe if I want another night, I should instead write a new daytime scene at an earlier point and then a nighttime scene, and then this current scene should stay the way it is, just taking place a day later. Or maybe I'll decide that I don't need more after all. I'd better proofread the whole thing and then decide.

I've also been pondering for some time on what my favorite 87 Turtles episodes are, like the actual Top 10 list. I mostly like ones that are light and funny and make me smile, and that somehow capture the innocent cheese of the 80's/early 90's. That always makes me feel nostalgic.

- I've listed Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady as my most favorite for a while. It's just so hysterical. I even showed it to Mom and she thought it was priceless too. The one thing I don't like is that the Channel 6 crew is mostly a joke as they are forced to be the victims of the malfunctioning mind-control device, but the episode makes me laugh so much that I tend to forgive that. I think what I enjoy the most is seeing Shredder utterly baffled by all the weirdness.

- I also keep thinking that any favorites list would have to include Take Me to Your Leader, because it was the first episode I saw outside of the Cowabunga Classics compilation and it remains one of the best examples of how utterly ridiculous and fun the show could be at the same time.

- Cowabunga Shredhead must be included. Shredder getting made fun of is always a scream, and hearing James Avery imitate Michelangelo as Shredder believes he's really the Turtle never gets old. I have been thinking that Michelangelo seems OOC at the beginning of that episode, though, as while even though he's nuts about pizza and might like to take it all, he doesn't deprive the other Turtles of all the pizza in any other episode. He's always pretty willing to share, really. He seems to love sharing his crazy pizza varieties with the others. I guess it's possible that he just got carried away and didn't even realize he'd eaten it all until he was done, though. And that could explain hiding guiltily in the cupboard.

- Curse of the Evil Eye would make the list, I'm pretty sure, and probably also The Mean Machines. One features Baxter finally rebelling against Shredder's abuse, while the other features probably the most screentime for him as a human.

- I would probably include The Mutagen Monster, because it's another great example of the show being so fun and silly. And they fix the problem instead of the poor cows having to stay a monster, so that's certainly a plus.

- I love the two Howie episodes, and I think they'd make the top 20 if not the top 10. So much fun with all the ridiculous song parodies, and then I love haunted theatre storylines!

- I debate whether episodes like Raphael Knocks 'Em Dead and Son of Return of the Fly II would make the list. The former is a blast and we meet Barney, and Barney's appearance would be what could push the episode to the top 10, but I'm thinking more it might make a top 20 list. And I don't like seeing Baxter suffering as a fly creature, but I do like seeing Z/Vincent and it's fun watching him walk around and imitate organic beings with all of his wild gesturing and posing. I don't, however, think any of the fly-Baxter episodes would make a top 10 list. This one might place as honorary mention on a top 20 list, though, just because of how important Z is in my verse and this is probably the one with him I re-watch the most. Revenge of the Fly is awfully depressing, really, although we do see a Z who has changed to the point that he is fiercely protective of Baxter in a way he isn't in the prior episodes, and I do love that aspect. And Bye, Bye, Fly, well, I re-watch it quite a bit since it's Z's intro episode, but it also has two instances of characters turning into non-anthro animals (albeit they do still keep their intelligence, at least). So that would keep it off a top 10 or 20 list, probably. I wouldn't even care about it if it weren't for Z.

Along those lines, I've been discovering that I've slipped into finding it difficult to watch Leatherhead's intro episode or the Ireland episode. I've seen the Leatherhead one several times, then the last time I watched it fine until we hit the weirdo pool, and then I decided I just wasn't up to seeing Shredder get age-reduced. Same thing happened with Bebop and Rocksteady in the Ireland episode. I saw it once, then went on ages and saw it again when I'd forgot that aspect, and then the third time I watched the first few minutes and decided I wasn't up for dealing with that aspect when this time I did remember it, so I stopped and watched the Orient Express episode instead. Honestly, the best thing about the Ireland episode is the community property line. ROTFLOL. But yeah, I just can't stand age-reduction in any form, even if it's the villains affected, and I'm amazed that I watched it at all in those episodes (let alone that I watched Detective Conan for a while). It just seriously rubs me the wrong way, and don't expect me to ever watch Three Men and an Egon. I saw a couple of clips and that was more than enough.

Anyway, maybe someday I'll figure out an entire top 10 list. Clearly I haven't yet, but I do know some of what would be on it (and some of what wouldn't be).
