So I went with the investigation angle for Dragons at Dawn, wrote a whole chapter, and started another one. Don't know if I'll really write out the whole fic, though. It would have to be just as a personal project, something to finally get completed for the joy of completing it, without expecting any comments. So far there are no comments, not even any new Favorites. Everyone's probably forgot the story after 8 and a half years, and anyone seeing it now won't want to read all the past chapters so that the current one will make sense. I also started posting the Pokemon-inspired fic. No one can be bothered to comment on that yet either, but at least a couple of people Favorited.
If I do keep writing Dragons at Dawn, I'm thinking that the stones allow Alister and Rishid to call for help and tell what they've done, but the stones figures that it's already too late to stop anything. And every time someone is defeated with the Neo-Orichalcos, Alister and Rishid are punished by the stones to feel the effects because they ended up rebelling. Alister, I think, is punished worse because he was the ringleader. By the time of the climax, he's pretty weakened. I did end up having him figure the stones influenced him and Rishid from the beginning, but on the other hand, he's not sure if he's using them as an excuse because he doesn't want to admit that he came up with the idea to use them without their direct influence. I may or may not reveal more than that; I am definitely leaning towards the stones having influenced them from the beginning, that in the blast that put their loved ones in suspended animation, the stones deliberately left Alister and Rishid awake and influenced them, hoping they would decide to try using the forbidden magic to revive their loved ones.
I drew Alister last night, completely from memory save for some of the details on his coat. I haven't drawn him for maybe 12 years, but he came out really well! I love it. http://meromeroyui.deviantart.com I'm working now on a picture of Marik unimpressed by Team Rocket's theatrics and motto, LOL. I'd like to color them both today, but I need something to ink them with. My black pen died and I don't think there are any others of that color in the house, save some that are too thick for inking.
I watched a whole bunch of YGO earlier tonight. The new DVDs haven't come yet, but they should be here Monday. I decided to watch all the other episodes with Seto on the set. The Scars of Defeat has always been one of my least favorite episodes. On the one hand, I totally get Seto feeling like he has to be ruthless to beat Pegasus. On the other, he really was unnecessarily a jerk to Joey. I love Seto in the Paradox trilogy. Then the Face-Off trilogy gives me a lot of mixed feelings again. With as many times as the dub recoiled in horror and took out mentions of death, I'm still amazed they had Seto basically threaten to kill Pegasus if he can't save Mokuba. Totally can't blame him for his outrage, though. Pegasus being willing to imprison and steal the soul of a ten-year-old kid was always really squicky to me, as was him being perfectly alright with arranging the murder of a teenage business tycoon. The Face-Off duel with Yugi was so very intense, as always, and I'm never sure what I think of Seto's infamous actions on the wall. Totally get why he felt he had to do it, but that was a really horrible thing to do. I also wonder if, had there really been no hope for Yugi to get inside the castle and it had been up to Seto to rescue everyone, if he would have tried to save Yugi's grandpa too. I don't think he even knew about Solomon also being captured until the Face-Off duel. I like to think that while he was at it, he would have gone ahead and tried to save Solomon too. What's probably more likely is that after saving Mokuba, Mokuba would have insisted he save Solomon too. But who knows.
Watching YGO felt really good and made me really happy. Watching on Saturday seemed especially nostalgic, and in any case, it brought back so many wonderful memories of watching it in first-run and re-watching episodes on my tapes and just in general how happy I was back then. It seemed a more innocent time; that was before I got so cynical and worn-out.
After watching episodes, I went around finding a lot of my memorabilia in the room: my Hexors, the little treasure chest filled with the games that came with the big figures, the Seto dog tags.... I tried really hard to get Yami Bakura memorabilia too, but it was rare and hard to find. I have a shirt with him on it and I managed to get one sticker. I have multiples of many characters and even gave some to a couple of friends, but I only ever found one Yami Bakura sticker. I never could get hold of the Hexor, magnet, and pin. Coming to think of it, I wasn't able to get the Seto magnet either. I'm sure there is one, but I haven't even seen a picture of it. I do have Yugi and Seto Hexors, since they came with the starter set, and in the past I sometimes wore one on the bracelet/necklace that came with the set. (There are two bracelets and I can combine them to make a short necklace.) And I have a Seto keychain, which moves from bag to bag whenever I need a new one. It's hanging from the zipper for the small compartment of my Turtles bag right now. And I have all three McDonald's CDs. I first heard One Card Short on those, thought it was awesome, and bemoaned its exclusion from the soundtrack. I was thrilled when it appeared on the movie soundtrack! Oh, I do have some other stickers too, the kind that came with the bubblegum. And I have an album to put those in. I have some Yami Bakura stickers for that. I think I have at least one of most characters there. And then Marik, I have some stickers of him for that album, a pin, a lunchbag, some kind of disc that changes pictures, a card holder with him and Seto on it, and both figures that were released by Mattel. And a bunch of shirts. I don't think there were Marik Hexors or magnets, unless they made some other waves I didn't know about.
I always feel bad I wasn't able to get the Tristan figure of the little figures. Didn't seem like they sold him for very long. I wanted some other characters first and then when I could get him, I couldn't find him. And I regret not getting Solomon. Those figures were only $2.99 each; I should have got them. I debated it sometimes, as Solomon was around for a while, but always ended up choosing not to at the time. I also don't have Pegasus, which I don't necessarily regret, but it would be nice to have all the human characters they made. I tried looking for them on eBay and Tristan and Solomon are apparently super rare. Pegasus is more common.
And I should have known I would regret not getting season 4 because of how much I loved Alister. And Seto and Duke had some good parts in it too. I'm wishing I had gone ahead and ordered it too. I probably will order it still, and then I'll have to come up with another disc among the guy's sales so I can get the 50% off deal. There's only maybe one or two other (non-YGO) DVDs that might be possibilities. Then another problem is that I also really want the first set for season 5, with the Siegfried episodes. I wish that seller had that set and I could grab it and season 4, but he doesn't have any of 2 or 5. So I could either get the season 5 set from a different seller and not do 4 right now, or I could get 4. I shouldn't get them all right now.
I also started pondering on making some YGO plushies. I've thought in the past of making Duke and David plushies, and that idea is still there. And I might make a Seto plushie. I always have found it odd that I didn't try to get a plushie of him from SetsunaKou, but that may have been because he tended to exasperate me so much in Battle City. I'm debating a Mokuba plushie too, but there doesn't seem to be a smaller size of the pre-stuffed dolls, except some by another company that aren't nearly as nice. I found a perfect wig for a Seto plushie, which pleases me, and some that might work for Duke and David. For Mokuba I could probably use the fluffy fake fur from Jo-Ann's. I've also contemplated a Siegfried plushie. Making that flamboyant character would be an experience.
