So Yami Marik has appeared at Level 50 for people to challenge. They win The Winged Dragon of Ra if they beat him. But boy, it's tough. The duels open with Ra already on the field in sphere mode, and then he can Special Summon Ra to come out on his first turn, gah. I got bowled over a couple of times and figured no way was I ever going to beat him at that level. But then this past day I thought about it and wanted to try harder, more as a personal challenge and to prove I could do it rather than just to get Ra (although that would be an awesome bonus).
I got bowled over many more times. I tried various strategies, they always failed, and I'd look up tips for new ones. I got tons of card packs trying to get a couple of cards that could destroy an opposing monster. Failed at that but got some other cool stuff. As it turned out hours later (no, I didn't play straight through, heh; I played a bit, left, came back for more, etc.), the winning strategy involved a couple of cards I already had long before that card shopping trip. I had zero luck using Enemy Controller to take Ra and use it against him, but I did manage to use it to save me twice in the duel. And I had Radiant Mirror Force to destroy all his monsters when he finally got three on the field at the same time I had the card active. So many times my strategies failed only because I couldn't draw the right card. But that time it worked, and I destroyed Ra with that! And that was only the beginning. The duel was back and forth, so intense, with me actually being able to pull off tricks to keep going, and then it got down to him using Viser Des on me and trying to destroy my card and I was losing lifepoints each turn. I was down to 100 and would definitely lose on that very turn, but he ran out of cards thanks to the length of the duel and my skill that enabled me to send his cards to the graveyard from his deck. Whew! That was epic. I thought I would lose, or that maybe it would be a draw, and then he lost seconds before I probably would have.
I'd previously debated what I'd do with Ra if I got it, if I'd give it to Yami Yugi or whatnot. And I decided, hey, Yami Bakura won it fair and square. It's his.
I saved the replay, squee. I think anyone with a Duel Links account can view someone's saved replays? Not positive on that, but I think they can. I've had no luck getting my replays recorded properly to upload to YouTube, but at least for that specific one, I think I might try something weird and hold up both tablets while recording from one to the other using the one's camera, and then to YouTube from there. I know the picture wouldn't be the greatest, though. That might not work at all. But I've seen videos on YouTube where someone held a camera up to their TV screen and recorded good enough to watch, so I think it's at least worth a try. Meanwhile, if anyone here has Duel Links and wants to see whether they can see the replays (or heck, be Friends on Duel Links and maybe have a friendly duel sometime), they can look me up: LuckyLadybug.
I am still squeeing all over, especially since I'm such a novice. I always wanted to play the game but had no one to play with, so I never collected many cards or tried to play it. But I sure learned a lot of tricks from watching the show, and then Duel Links really makes it pretty simple to learn. Of course, I still have a long way to go; I don't often beat human opponents. But it's still fun to try! And even people who have played a lot longer have trouble with Yami Marik at level 50, so squeeee.
Also, I unlocked Ishizu yesterday morning! Squeee! Or rather, I unlocked her to duel against. One requirement to make her playable is to win a duel against her with at least 6000 lifepoints. WTH? How am I going to get 6000 lifepoints shy of a Nutrient Z card? I have one of those, actually, and it's been invaluable, but normally if I use it, I'll end up with less than 6000 lifepoints after the attack. And I don't know if Ishizu even has anything powerful enough to require that card anyway. I do think I have a card that grants 1000 lifepoints, but there's some condition to it, of course. Seems like I felt it was too risky to use, or that the condition made it not worth it, or something.
... And then I unlocked Weevil to duel against without even trying to. I've dueled and beat him twice. It feels good!
